After hearing so much about this new Chinese TV drama, I'm going to watch it after I posted this trailer or watch it here at youtube that has Huang Xiao Ming singing with Sun Li, the female co-star, who I realized just now is the one who played the blind girl in Jet Li's Fearless. And over at youtube, they have long clips of the drama already!!
就算没有明天/ Even if there is no tomorrow
Last night my kids and I watched the modern version of Romeo and Juliet. Good lord, just the name makes us laugh. When the first scene of our Romeo came on, we were rolling on the floor laughing. Never thought Tackey would play the role of a garbage man. My daughter and I had the same immediate reaction. My daughter laughed hilariously and said, "If Tackey is really a garbage man in our area, I would be out there every Tuesday morning waiting for him with my garbage." I chimed in and said, perhaps the whole street would be lined with moms waiting with their garbage for the garbage man. Alright, correction, so he's not a garbage man, but just a recylcing man. The plot is predictable. Rich man's daughter meets with garbage man and couldn't marry him and commit suicide. hahahaha....

My daughter has eagerly waited for this drama by Kame for the entire season and finally we got around to watch it together. This is much better than his last drama which we didn't manage to get past episode 2. This is a simple story of a rich girl falling in love with a poor boy. Straight forward and simple with predictable obstacles from the parents. But Kame looked a bit more watchable this time. Less kid like and more range. At first, I didn't find it convincing especially after reading rumors in the news about him cohabitating with someone 20 years his senior in real life...I couldn't really buy the fact that he could be play a pure and innocent 20 year old in this series. I made a mental note that perhaps Johnny's Entertainment is right in stopping all love affairs of these young stars so that their drama roles would be less clouded by our judgment. But the acting of the supporting stars are really convincing - all very simple and energetic, eager to please. I like especially Ayuta, the friend who always helps these two to get together. It is an easy drama to watch, unlike Kimura's where you have to halt after one or two episodes because it is so intense and you have to catch your breathe. So as a no-brainer, less soapy , and perhaps a tinge more sophisticated than the Korean dramas plagued with terminal illnesses if not deaths, we breezed through it in one sitting. Out of 10, I'd give this a 7 claps. The friend and mother trying to extort money is really old trick. That's 2 points off.
The simple story line has one point off. This drama on average has only 11% rating, ranking the bottom 7th out of 16 dramas. The winner this season was Dr. Koto about a doctor on an island at around 22%.
