The Host sold remake rights to Hollywood and it would be remade into an American film. It was shown in the US in March this year but it didn't make the papers so not many people really bothered with it. I suppose I would watch the remake this time. I would prefer watching more handsome actors for one, and I think the Americans could make it slightly scarier. There are parts in the middle that dragged quite a bit - especially the acting parts.
Nevertheless it did well enough for a Korean film but of course not as good as other Asian movies. Check my previous table here. I have included more Korean comparisons here between The Host and Taegugki.
Thanks to Miki for posting this link. The making of the trailer! ![]()

Oh man, have I been doomed this weekend to poor or mediocre movies? We watched this debut work of Rain and I could only say one thing. This movie is ultra weird. I can't believe my kids sat through the whole thing. My husband left us in 15 minutes. I kept falling asleep. First of all, Rain in that weird hairstyle does not help. Added to that, the female lead in her strange hairdo further worsens the situation. Rain is adequate but for him to turn cuckoo and trying to manage an even more cuckoo patient who imagines herself to be a robot ready to kill the hospital staff in order to get to her grandma is plain weird. Aiya...I don't recommend anyone to watch it unless you like strange, random type of movies. This one test one's patience....as much...if not more...than Asano Tadanobu's work.

That's right. It took me 2 years to finally watch Three Times as my library only just got this movie but YEOW~!!!! This is a great 3-story movie. I love the first story the most. Set in 1960's, Shu Qi as the brainless pool hall girl...hahaha...but the focus was not on Shu Qi in this story. The focus was on the sincerity of Chang Chen. OMG, the moment Chang Chen showed up, I was hardly breathing. He looked even more authoritative than any movie I have seen so far of his (I've only got 4 more movies to go of his entire film career). It doesn't matter if he was near baldness in this one...OMG...he was impressive. I guarantee you, in 3-5 years, he will win the awards that Tony Leung used to win. He was so good, so poised, and with perfect emotions for this movie. When he tried to locate her from place to place...that sincerity was so genuine and when they met again....aarrrgghhh...it was perfect, perfect, perfect. But I think that hand clasp was 10 times more satisfying than any scene in this entire movie. I love the old music used, even the Chinese song, and above all, I love watching them travel by a little boat from place to place. This is so 1960's just like when I was growing up.
If you haven't watched Daisy yet, you better buy or rent it asap. This movie filmed in Amsterdam was directed by Andrew Lau from Hong Kong, the director for Infernal Affairs, the script written by a Korean and apart from Jiang Da Wei, a Hong Kong actor playing the hired assasin boss, the rest are all Koreans. OMG, this movie is good! This is exactly what Andrew Lau is capable of delivering, not the hyped up and misexecuted Confession of Pain. The story is about Jung Woo Sung being a hired killer and the day he killed his first person, he bumped into Jeon Ji Hyun, a street artist in Amsterdam, who represents purity for him. Ever since then, he sent her flowers everyday at 4.15 pm but she didn't know he was the sender. She waited, and waited, until one day, Lee Jung Jae an Interpol agent appeared.

A Bittersweet Life is not a movie for kids because it is about Lee Byung Hun, the right hand man of a triad ,carrying out his boss' order. In this movie, he was supposed to check on the boss' girlfriend to see if she has a lover and Lee Byung Hun was given the choice to handle the matter. Let's just say the first scene was real kick ass. Actually, whenever Lee Byung Hun fought, he was quite something especially his high sweep kick. No wonder why Jackie Chan likes Lee Byung Hun so much and claim that he is his half brother.
