P.S. Genki Desu Shunpei by Koichi Domoto
Last night I finish watching PS Genki Desu Shunpei by Koichi
P.S.元気です、俊平P.S. I'm fine Shunpeihttp://jdorama.com/drama.317.htm
and even though the story is very similar to the Tacky's story Boku dake no Madonna You are my only Madonna
http://www.jdorama.com/artiste.339.htm
and Tokyo University Love Story by Goro Inagaki
http://jdorama.com/drama.420.htm
this story is much more together and has a better effect and reminds me the purity of love for some people.
In Tokyo University Love Story, Seto Asaka plays the same role as she did in PS Genki Desu where she is lively, vibrant, but likes to tease. With Goro, she's an encouraging type but I don't like her. Too contrived a character to be so sunny.
In PS Genki, she is equally sunny, but more conniving, always says things she doesn't mean.
In Tacky's drama, the girl Matsushima Nanako was equally annoying, lying all the time.
In PS Genki, and Tacky's Madonna, both are older girls and younger boys and they always have this assumed air of being more experienced than the boy and toy with them. What a pain.
But of all the three stories, I like Koichi's the best.
Koichi played a very inexperienced student who had to do remedial classes and retest for entry to a university and he got recruited by Asaka to sell maps when he neared the campus for the first time.
Asaka had a doctor boyfriend but her good friend stole him and he regretted it and tried to get back with her. Koichi has once a first love but his first love left him because he was dumpy and foolish - not knowing how to express himself. Ha....my Koichi is dumpy and foolish???? That's quite an act on Koichi's part. Never seen him so flustered, so stuck with words. It's a good show.
In real life, I think he's extremely smooth and the life of a party and one who mingles around crowd easily and connect people as though that's his mission. So this got to be an interesting role for him. His helplessness is so refreshing to watch.
And his growing jealousy as he liked this girl more and more versus his first love who suddenly returned to him.
Although I still don't like Asaka's character role, it serves the story well. Asaka's nonsense gets boring for me as the two other girls in the other two dramas , that's why I lump them all together. But this drama stands out because in the end, I feel for Koichi's character, being so pure, so innocent, so elegantly put, so loving...sigh...what a character.
Yep, suddenly I treasure my husband more .... It's the sense of commitment that he conveys that's very convincing, that no matter how difficult, that's what you want and you stick with it.
Highly recommended if you are a new fan. This is as good as City of Pure Souls where he played a character very loyal to friends and family character amid triad activities. I like Koichi's dramas the more I watch him. Too bad there are very few only.
Here are some screencaps from the drama.
