Myojo June 2006 Volume 133 On Crisis
SMAP leader’s famous saying is “Turning point is crisis, crisis is turning point.”
“Did Nakai say this before? For me, turning point is turning point, crisis is crisis? (laughs) what are my thoughts for overcoming a crisis?”
On encountering crisis, I would look at the face in the mirror and would say something critical of myself, “You! Are you facing a great crisis now?” Then, in the mirror, that face would say back, “You! What are you looking at?” But at that moment, I am already getting into a combat stage.
I could almost be called being nosy? I really like to get into things. Should I be called very busy? (laughs) Whoever comes across me and is going through crisis, I would absolutely help and give ideas. I just wanted to do something. For instance, at SXS when the art department crew hurt his hand, to stop the blood flow, I would take my own personal supplies and say, “This one is very good!” Of course, because I am not a professional and so I could not be 100% right, that I know. Even if I am 99% confident, I still carry 1% of discomfort. But even that, I wouldn’t not do anything. So when I meet someone similar to me, I’m very happy.
In Bushi, the staff gave me a whole bunch of things, “This is very good! Try it out!” And because of this atmosphere of recommendations, it makes me feel, “Haha…it’s really good to pass time with such great people!”
I think, when encountering crisis, what could be used is of course based on each person’s own experience. Even though it could not be applied in all circumstances, but with this type of experience, no matter what happens, I would still think, “Since I could go through it that time, this time, I could also do it!” Is that trust in oneself? It is not the definition of self belief person, but the true meaning of self confidence, shouldn’t it be this?
To exchange the energy from one’s experience, even on TV you could see it, but you don’t just watch it, but to feel what is deep inside. Like when I was young, I am very much into animal kingdom. I often see the animal’s ways on the African plains, I see the cruel scenes and would have the feeling of “Aoah!”. That is also an experience. It’s not just innocent as watching TV and laugh or cry along, but it deeply affects me inside. That is not “knowledge”, but it’s a personal energy that comes out later on. Through the imagery I experience such things, It’s quite amazing! Because I have such “experiences”, then I know how to look after injuries?
Is such state of peace wrong? I actually feel, “I actually do like crisis!” (laughs) because it is more exciting! I like the plane of crisis. For instance, when I see a slope, I would think, “would going on a skateboard be really bad?”. The next second, I would be praying, “Please do not let any accidents happen” and skating down. (laughs) At that point, I would really rely on experience. “If I skate on that side, the slope would be like this.” But there is a crisis greater than expected and suddenly appears in front of me. That has happened before. Then each and every time, it is really a crisis. (laughs) Absolutely does not have any room for enjoyment. I just focus and strive to avoid (crisis)…don’t have any planning! (laughs) In the end, I have been hurt before, but that is the real experience. If I always encounter these things, isn’t it quite luxurious?
Because to overcome the crises around me, it’s equal to going beyond myself. To be able to do this, no matter what age, gender, the child like expression would show. If I could share that moment, it would make us closer. No matter it’s competitions, daily life, individually or group wise, could we say the same? Talking about, “I think the same way!” it’s like some confession. There is this feeling of knowing one another deeply.
Even though after saying so much, for me, “only this I could not overcome” is toothache…it’s really annoying! When I go to the dentist, no matter how pretty the attendant is! (laughs) chi chi chi..that type of noise…really…..why?
But now that I have become an adult, I could hide slyly. Like I would collect information and choose to see a dentist who wouldn’t hurt. When I was young and my parents asked me to go to the dentist, I could only sit in the dental chair and open my mouth, right? Even if they say, “raise your hand if it hurts” I wanted to say, “That would be too late already!” (laughs) Think on the good side, because I have this “don’t want to go there” feeling, so I try hard not to let tooth decay happen. Thanks to this, I am still using my whole set of my own teeth to eat. The result is pretty good….it’s unconsciously avoiding a crisis. (laughs)
Believe in myself, then rise up.
By the time I realize, every one could also be a PINCH BEATER!
