Francis Ng was unhappy that the promotional company for the movie Crazy and the City released 7 photos of his kissing scene with the actress Cheung Ming without asking him ahead of time.
He said, "This field you have to follow the rules. If you don't , we bound to meet again. I make over 20 movies a year. You guys don't want to continue working."
"I have done many ugly roles before, but I don't think this was necessary. Too much would make it look ugly. But in order not to fight with the director, and to maintain professionalism, I agreed. I am not the idol type. I will prove with my action and now you could see the audience reaction. It affected the view and aftertaste of the audience. See how bad it is."
The director is his friend and when he agreed to this scene, it was after a lot of argument because he usually do not accept movies with kissing. But in the end he agreed.
He said that it would be the only time. So did he regret? He said that the friendship is more important. The kissing scene to him was neither important nor necessary in the movie. And besides, he thought the scene was shot very badly and looks ugly and it would affect how the audience would see him. Luckily his wife was not angered.
The movie is at HK3 million by the 10th day.

Here is the preview to the movie.

You could hear he spoke a couple words of English at the end.

Francis Ng who is very diversified has been selected by the European director to star in a new movie called Dance With Tea. He would be playing the role of a killer and would have scenes with Hollywood actor Harvey Keitel.
Francis who was in Singapore livened up when he talked about Harvey Keitel. "One is Robert De Niro and the other is Harvey Keitel. I wanted very much to have the chance to work with them. I have watched Piano Man and Pulp Fiction and he was fabulous in both. The director actually wanted to find one very fluent Italian speaking actor and could really act and who would like the script very much. He went to Singapore to act for two days. His work attitude is really admirable. I would learn a lot from him."
As for 徐若瑄 Chuyuson??? (I don't know how to translate it), he would have love scene with her. Francis said, "I might not have to do the scene. Even though she appears in the movie, and because of her, my life as a killer changed, not all movies have to have passionate love scene. I could use inner feelings to show it."
Accordingly, this European director has lived in HK before and have watched Francis Ng's many works and is impressed by his acting skills. So when he decides on the movie, he did not think of any other but just Francis. He didn't mind waiting for Francis until he would be free and Francis was very touched by his sincerity. He smiled and said, "Whether this movie could help me develop the market for me in Europe or how much I would be paid is beside the point. It's just interesting that someone is silly enough to insist on getting a foreigner who speaks Cantonese to make an international movie. Where could I find such sincerity?"

Francis Ng was the dubbed voice of the main character in the animated film The Incredibles. He spent 2 days to record it for the pay of one day. He was concerned about using a fake sounding voice during the process because he thought it might injure his vocal chord if it had to go too strong or too low.
Ronald Cheng was the bad guy in the movie who got the cold shoulder from a girl. He said when he recorded, he thought about his days being jilted by his girlfriend.

衝上雲霄 Triumph of the Skies
TVB's drama ratings have been falling and they would like to bring the original crew for this drama back for a sequel. Francis said," First we have to agree on the fee. I have to think about it because when he makes TV series, it takes at least 6 months and I couldn't do anything else. Besides, I still want to have time to make other movies and make babies. And besides I don't want to play the same role of Sam because it wouldn't be refreshing. I would like a new love."
The director said if the original cast do not want to join, he would go ahead with a new cast but same subject matter.

Francis Ng had been married for two years and two years ago he proposed to his wife at the stairways in Central. He who is not very romantic laughted and said, "I felt it is not very romantic but perhaps when women see how flustered men could be, they felt especially delighted. When I took the ring out, she was so happy that she agreed to the proposal."
For the promotion of Triumph in the Sky, Francis was promoting it in Taiwan. He said that in the movie, he played an introvert pilot who would not share his pain or love. In real life, it is rather similar. But as for destiny, he said if you believe it, then everything may seem to be destined. He thought the character in the series want to be too rational, too perfect but he prefers imperfection.
He mentioned that at 19, he once liked a very tall girl at 5 feet 7. He wanted to know her so one day he approached her. "Did your friends ask you to come and talk to me?" she asked. Francis has a very honest down to earth look and doesn't look the type who would make the first move. It was a very pure love that he still remembered being very romantic.
The wife is a Singapore girl he had dated for over 4 years called Wang Li Ping黄丽萍. Whenever he talked about his wife, he wouls soften up. He said, "Married life is very different because you have a stronger sense of responsibility. In the past I might go out and not come home for the night but now I could not because there is someone waiting for me at home.
He said he is not a very good husband because when he arrives home, he would just sit quietly on one side and when his wife speaks, it's like she's speaking to air. He supposed that would be the regret of his wife. But it couldn't be helped because Francis never really liked to talk much.
After 2 years, he said he would really like to have a baby but he had been very busy filming and so far there is no good news. He didn't have much time to rest and so in August, he planned to take his wife to the US for vacation. His wife would like a son and he would like a daughter. He laughed, "If we could have both at the same time, then we wouldn't have to be so worried."

At a promotion for a Pepsi product drink which Francis Ng was the spokesman, he was dressed in black and so did all the colleagues and it looked like a scene from Infernal Affairs.
This was the third time he has been to Beijing.
Asked if he would refuse to make any more TV series, Francis said that in the next two years he wouldn't but he would be performing in a musical in Hong Kong where he would be naked.
The reporters asked when he would play a good guy. Francis explained, "It is not a bad thing to play a bad guy. If my real life could be different from the screen life, it is more interesting. I sometimes request to be casted as a good guy but the producers usually look me up for the worst guy in the movie. If the audience is moved, that's good enough. " After his speech the group and the police and security surrounded him and escorted him to the elevator just like in Infernal Affairs 2.

Heroic Duo was shown in Asia in over 100 cinemas. Earlier, Francis Ng was in town to do the promotion and an interview.
How do you find Leon Lai and Ekin Cheng?
We are all actors and when I work with them, it's very easy going. I'm not nervous at all. After all, I am an actor.
In the movie you have many action scenes. Did you do them all yourself?
Yes, no matter how difficult the action is, I would do it. What you see on screen is the real me.
How would you categorize yourself as an actor?
There are idol type and acting type. I definitely do not qualify as the idol type so I would say I'm the acting type. I don't specialize in any particular roles.
You have so many roles and have been a Best Actor. You have made some not so good movies. Would you be like Anthony Wong who would make movies to feed the family?
I have been in some crummy movies before but the role I play are not crummy. As for family finances, every responsible person would take up the burden. I don't have as large a burden as Anthony Wong but my house is pretty big too. I have three criteria for accepting movies: for money, for friendship, or for speciall relationship, and the wish to perform in a certain capacity. But I would not take a crummy role.
Has your married life reduce your movie filming?
No, it didn't reduce my work load and it won't change much. I am one who does not like to entertain much anyway.

Before the HK Film Awards 2004, Francis was interviewed and he said, "I and Sean Lau have already made a bet. A bet for a bottle of red wine. No matter who gets the Best Actor award, we would enjoy ourselves and party. Jacky Cheung returning to the movie scene is really great. I'm really happy for him. If I compare myself with Andy Lau, I believe my acting skills are better than him. No matter what the ending is, I will feel regret for all the actors, including Andy Lau."
Francis said that his wife is from Singapore and he has a Buddhist name called 觉一居士. He has been Buddhist since he was 20 years old.
The thousands of fans were all cheering for him below the podium.

When the new movie SECRET 秘密 has its opening ceremony, Francis Ng was interviewed and he said he would not accept any more TV series offers. "Because I need money. TVB would not be able to help me on that count." Compared to Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung, Francis Ng's have participated in a great number of films. You need money because your business failed?
"No. It's mainly because after I married, I would have to pay for schooling and living expenses of the children when they come around. I am now saving as much money as I could."
In a year, Francis makes 20 films and often they are pretty crummy. Francis said that the HK movie industry really breaks his heart. "The HK movie golden era is over with. Perhaps because they produced too many crummy movies. Hong Kong has some directors who make crummy productions."
The reporter said that he has participated in many crummy movies. Francis quickly explained, "The movie industry in Hong Kong was not wrecked by me. I am just an actor. Whatever actors do is fine. But a bad movie is the fault of the producer and the director. Many bosses know that their movies are not good but to earn money, they still go ahead. I suggest those people to change their trade."
Francis said that HK people really likes to watch movies and the industry is so bad that only Stephen Chow's movies could attract them back into the theatres. He sighed. "I have seen Kung Fu Hustle. If this movie did not have Stephen Chow in it, you would all not be watching it. The kung fu in the movie could be performed by everyone. I suppose you all like Stephen Chow's movies and that is his attraction. I hope that I could become a director because as an actor it is difficult for you to change the market. If I could be director, I would make movies that have thinking behind it and change the level of appreciation by the audience."

Francis Ng who often plays a powerful bad guy has a totally different image in this movie Hands in the Hair. He becaome a cowardly looking Shanghainese man.
The movie was about a female customer, Rosamund Kwan, and her 28 year old hairdresser's affair (hairdresser played by Wallace Huo). Francis played a supporting role and was the husband of Rosamund Kwan and a reporter at a small newspaper. In the movie, Francis tied his hair back and put on his sunglasses and did housework. He looked after his wife and kid and did not say much. This was definitely not the cooling looking gangster Ng we are used to.
Francis actually liked this role very much. "This is a real man and has many dimensions." Why did he accept the role? Francis said that in the past he has heard many people say that Shanghainese men listen to their wife and are controlled by Their wife. At home they cook. Many women wants to marry Shanghainese man. I was very curious. Plus it's very easy role so I wanted to try.
As for the notions about Shanghainese men, Francis said, "I feel that having happiness is good enough. It has nothing to do with being afraid of the wife. I play the role where I even kneel down to lace her shoes - that's romantic Shanghainese man! He really loves his wife!"

Francis Ng said that for the China production called Hands in the Hair, he only had a cameo. In four days, he shot 9 scenes. He played Rosamund's husband and he's really just a flower vase. Perhaps the director thought he would be a handsome and cool background. But he didn't think it's misuse of his talent. He said, "The scene I like most was the scene where I helped put the shoe on Rosamund Kwan. That's the scene that made me agree to make this movie. In real life, I haven't put the shoe on for my wife but I did do the shoe laces for her and when I saw how sweet her face was, I felt very blessed."
As for Anthony Wong saying that it's difficult to work with dogs and kids, Francis said that for dogs, he would also bring his own treats so he wouldn't have any problems. With kids it is a bit more difficult. But sometimes, he's more active than the kids.
