Silk by Chang Chen, Yosuke Eguchi, Karena Lam
I never liked horror movies. They freak me out most of the time and I don't see myself as one who is brave enough to watch one at night by myself but I have to watch Silk because Chang Chen was in it. Arrghh...it got scary enough that I have to turn off the volume half way through the movie and only watch the visuals. Too scary for a skittish one like me. But sigh, it's still a good movie. Chang Chen is really very solid in his acting. I think this is the first time I have seen him wielding a rifle and using guns. He looked so determined, yet so soft. It's just the perfect combination.

The story is about him having extremely sharp eyes and ability to lip read on top of being a detective and he got recruited by Japanese scientist, Yosuke Eguchi, who tries to understand the energy of a ghost. No matter how illogical the premises are, the message at the end of the movie was decent. But could you imagine in a horror movie, the last few seconds of the movie could move me so much - only because of Chang Chen. His acting...sigh...is so good.
Here is a site with a trailer and some movie stills, but if you haven't watched the movie yet, don't read the review or it will spoil it. This is another must watch work of Chang Chen. Oh yeah, Chang Chen spoke some Japanese in this, so did Barbara Hsu. Karena Lam has only a few scenes as girlfriend but she is very watchable. This movie received five nominations (Director, screenplay, visual effects, best film, film score) at the Golden Horse Film Awards and won the Best Visual Effects awards in 2006.
