Radio program March 2007

Thanks to effulgence for this file with Go and Junichi and tommy for translating it. I am totally surprised that Junichi expresses so much about the Three Kingdoms.

Junichi Okada:

I wanted to be teacher, especially social studies.
I'm really good at history, I like Three kings the best.
Do you guys know this, " a match for a thousand"? (一騎当千)
There were so many military commanders in China at that time who could fight a thousand men.
But you know, it's a lie, there was no one, however why was this saying made?
I'm telling you today, the reason why.

At that time in China, Sinocentrism was a common belief, only some commanders could reign over the land and they did as they liked. So the peasantry didn't care about who was the strongest, they just needed a teritory, food, or anything for their living. There was a strong family Liu then and the peasantry had a belief to them but nothing else. However they had no reason to follow the strong commanders, the reason just like for going on an expedition. They certainly wanted to defend their teritories, but not for expeditions to other places. They really didn't have the reason for themselves to do that.
So that if some strong commanders came to their land, the famous commanders just like Guan Yu he's still honored in China, Zhang Fei, Zhao Yun and so on who were called (一騎当千)"a match for a thousand" commanders, the peasantry just ran away by the thousand.
Guan Yu didn't fight the thousand and won, but the peasantry ran away because they were just frightend, for that reason Guan Yu have been called a strong commander " a match for a thousand" without fighting.

(after this lecture, Go said)
The only thing I've got to know is a strong man is just stong! biggrin.gif

*********************************************************

okay, this is the detail blush.gif
But Go said this saying was not so important for our life now faint.gif
Also Junichi said this was the first time he talked about " a match for a thousand" because it was not so useful for his life ever laughing1.gif
Go pressed Junichi to give another useful imformation, so Junichi decided to change the topic laugh.gif

Next one is " How to climb the Himalayas"!
