Let's start with this type of message today!

Fax: I saw Hero!! You said the recording schedule was tight and it finished right before the broadcast day! Did you get a chance to watch the final work? Where did you watch it?

About this.. At home, I watched it at the same time as you all on Monday 9 PM on tv. I sat on the floor and watched it. Right before it started, the Fuji news commercial came on and from that point I became apprehensive. That day at 5 PM, I called the manager because I wanted to watch the final work even a little earlier than everyone else. (earlier than 9 pm) I asked him if he could send me the dvd of the final work. But he said "it will have to be after 12 midnight" and I said "eh? that's after it's on-air on tv!!" So I started saying I'll watch it on tv when it's aired. We finished all of the filming on the same day it broadcasted (monday) at 6 PM. We finished only 3 hours before it was aired on tv. So I was able to watch it at exactly the same time as you all! (hahah)

Last week, I visited Waratte Iitomo (a variety show) and Mezamashi tv (morning news program), and I was doing a corner with Ogura san. But then the producer (of hero) came right when I was working on a different show, saying that we needed to re-do part of the sound. Not the visual, but the sound. So I've been called to the filming studio multiple times before it was aired.

Fax:
I watched Hero on Monday. I'm happy that Kuryu Kohei had not changed much. You once said that you don't like to do sequels or re-makes of past programs. How did you change your mind with this first sequel of Hero.

It's amazing how the listeners know so much. Yes it's true that there was a me who didn't like to do sequels. It's weird to say "there once was a me" but.. I was curious about what Kuryu Kohei was doing the past 5 years after he moved to another town. I was casually talking to the manager, and we started talking about what Kuryu was up to.. So he said "then let's do a sequel!" And I had fun with it. It was very interesting.

Fax:
I watched Hero. I was very happy that Hero was back! There was a scene where you jumped into the ocean from the cliff. Was that really you or a stunt man? It was pretty high up. And the water was beautiful, with many fish. But is that water real? It's not digitally edited right?

Really, these listeners don't know where to stop. (meaning listeners like to poke +prod +be curious). It was alright to stop at the point where you asked if it was really me jumping into the ocean. Well.. that ocean scene.. Yes, it was a stunt man. You wouldn't believe it if you actually stared at the screen!! How was it? The producers yelled, "alright, we're going!" And I thought "oh i'm actually going to do it!" (don't really know if he was joking when he said it was a stunt man..) And the ocean and fish.. That part is wonderful, our staff.. We had 6 real, living, fish join us in the filming. They were part of the cast. We filmed them swimming around. But the hard part was, when the producers yelled "Ready, start!" the fish would swim away.. And they'd come drifting back to say hello. And there was a scene with the roosters.. where the policeman grabs 2 roosters by the legs skillfully. For that, we had a pro come and help us with it.

Fax:
Hero was awesome! It was full of laughs and tears, and I barely realized the time pass by. What is Agoma, the smelly food? I have lived in Yamaguchi-ken since I was born, but I don't know what agoma is. Is it really smelly?

Wow, what a question. Someone who has always lived in Yamaguchi ken doesn't know what Agoma is. The reason is.. There is no such thing as Agoma! It doesn't exist. (he said "Nai yo"-- "we don't have it" the same way the cook/master in Hero talks) The scene where Kuryu coincidentally meets with the master in the restaurant after 5 years.. He makes a surprised face upon seeing the master again right. Even I didn't know the master (the same guy from 5 yrs ago) would be there. (he's saying that he himself was shocked to see the same actor in the real filming session) Oh but we're going off track. Sorry- the Agoma should have shocked all those who live in Yamaguchi ken. But the black food in the plastic bag is really whale (fat, skin,??). I had to say this because it would be rude to those who live in Yamaguchi-ken. When I first read the script, I asked the manager what Agoma was, and he even said he never heard of it. But finally I was told that it was made up. Even the town, Nijigaura, is fake.

Fax:
I watched the Hero special. The 24 minute long heated discussion (in the climax) really touched me. Even in the end, Kuryu Kohei had tears in his eyes. How was the atmosphere in the filming studio then?

That scene was really something. The day before filming, Tsutsumi Shinichi san and I thought that the long discussion would be filmed in one long cut. So we really had to have the script down solid. And it said in the fax that even Kuryu had tears in his eyes.. He should have had tears, with that atmosphere. Nakai Kiitsu san was there too, and it became very heated. Afterwards, Nakai Kiitsu san told me that he liked (a type of food) that I recommended to him. So he said that he would send me a pork food package in return.. and I am still waiting for it.

For this year's Hero, there were many messages regarding this matter, so I would like to read these messages.

Fax:
I really enjoyed Hero. Kuryu had not changed much but there were parts where I thought "wait.. what?" This time, the investigation was not carried out fully. The 2 mysteries were connected in some way, right? It was not like Kuryu to let the investigation go.

You know what.. There's no need to prod that far, right?

Hey did you know that soon.. Kiss will come to Japan? Such a big artist coming over here. Smapxsmap's producer, Kuroki, was already on to it when I asked him about it. He is really the best dame ningen, I've been watching him lately. His front hair (bangs) look very boyish. He went to invite Kiss to be a guest in smapxsmap, and amazingly..... He was declined!!!

Song: I was made for Loving you--Kiss (takuya says many listeners requested this song, and he's happy that the quality of music requested in WUS is improving)

Waaa.. We had planned to have Kiss sing with us in the music corner of smapxsmap but the schedule was changed last minute. It would really have been something. That is to say, I really wanted to meet Kiss. But logically, in the end it was better that they were too busy to visit us at smapxsmap. Because Kiss really breathes fire ("hi wo fuku"=?) while singing. Then Kuroki san will come up to me and say "Uhh kimura san (takuya says this in a mumbling, dame ningen way) can you please "hi fuku" with Kiss?" I've never done it before and I don't want to try it. So after Kiss declined, we had to plan another guest to come. The target is Janet Jackson. She is planning to come to Japan. Before, Janet Jackson did come to smapxsmap as a skit guest, but we didn't sing with her. We want to sing Rhythm Nation with her. But if, IF, she says "ok", I don't really think we smap will be able to sing Rhythm Nation. And looking at the music video... That kind of dancing is probably impossible for us. (haha!)

Recently there have been many interesting commercials (CM's) on tv. Things that make you go "what is that?" So here are a few messages.

Hello Takuya Captain! Recently there have been many CM's. I really like the Hot Pepper CM. Smap looks really young in it. How old were you in the CM? Also, the Georgia Canned Coffee CM is very funny.

Where the Hot Pepper CM came from.. There are many versions of the Hot Pepper CM. In our show, Gambarimashou (a long time ago), there was a story, and the CM is based on the theme of that story. The manager filmed many different versions of the CM and showed us the dvd of it. It was pretty interesting. It's weird to show a CM with the young us now.. But when I happen to see it on tv, I think, "Oh it started! This time is the song version!" I really like it. It's fun to wait and see what version will be aired each time. And the Georgia CM with Watari Tetsuya san.. The office is amazing! There is one version that hasn't been aired yet. There are 3 patterns total. Watari san is amazing.. after the filming, we all go to change out of our suit costumes.. But Watari san is always the first to come to greet us. He is a very proper person. He brought us wine too, and it made me think "i haven't brought anything for him.." Maybe I should give him a pair of teardrop aviator glasses.. But if I do that without putting much thought into it, he would beat me up. (haha)

Live tour kickoff starts in just 2 weeks!!! Yeayy!! Is it ok to say yay? The theme is still a secret. Among the listeners, those who thought "You guys probably haven't even recorded the album yet, so you don't even know the theme".. It's rude you know. But it's true. (silence) (they themselves don't even know the theme!)

Fax:
I really liked how you talked about having good manners (courtesy among fans) in the concert. But I noticed.. you were talking about the matter very gently. (as if worried to hurt other's feelings). You could have been more firm. (Takuya says "really? I was talking about it gently?") Also, are there any fans during any concert that you remember vividly? Some fans that had good courtesy that helped you feel good and high-tension? Please share.

Hmm.. That's a hard way to put it. Hmm.. I remember many normal ladies who probably are very calm at work and who sometimes joke around at home.. turn into preschoolers at the concerts.. They become full of happiness- screaming and laughing. I remember many happy faces. It doesn't matter whether the fan is male or female, or any age.. Even little kids with their mothers, both enjoying it the same amount. When I see fans that respond with high-tension, I also feel the energy. When it gets to the point where it gets out of hand (dangerous), I would think "oi oi! be careful!" But a degree of high-tension is ok.

Last year, (in Bang Bang Smap to Ichatta tour), we walked through the stadium to the stage in the opening. But depending on the stadium, the space we have to walk can get very narrow. Sometimes the fans would reach out at us and make the space even more narrow. Those parts were a little too much, but then it is also fun afterwards. I mostly don't really mind any way of responding to the concert. Some people like to listen calmly the whole time, and that is perfectly welcome too.

There are many past singles that we haven't sung much in concerts. Like "Munasawagi wo tanomu yo".. we haven't sung that at all.

This time I have a request for Takuya captain. Smap has released so many songs.. There are more than 30 singles too right? But my allowance is small, and I don't have the money to buy them all. But I want to listen to them all! (takuya is amused) Please play some old smap songs on WUS sometimes! We young listeners would like to get a taste of the nostalgic old smap. Please introduce some songs you like.

There are more and more young listeners requesting this. It's a little embarrasing to introduce our old songs.. what should we do today?

What about a song from the year Suzu was born? 1993.

Song: Hajimete no Natsu (SMAP)

Waaa! What is this! From the opening of the song, the "ton ton ton" instrument part, you already get a feel that it's old. The whole thing is recorded live. (not in a mike studio like now) Wow it's baffling. The pitch of the voices, the melody.. What you're listening to now is the 8th single of smap. It really does sound like it should be around the eighth.

(the song goes.. la la la la laa..) *takuya stops the music*

It's amazing. Listening to the lyrics too.. Brings back memories. Even now, in the recording studio, Victor Studio.. we're recording. I remember the staff telling us how to sing it. We were getting scolded a lot. "Do it over again. It's wrong!" We had to stay in the studio for so long until we got it right.

WAIT! Wait wait!! You there, is it ok to be listening to the radio right now? Howl's Moving Castle is playing on tv right now!! With a little bit left, right before the climax. So the theme of today's WUS is-- let's run away!! Because Howl is playing on tv right? That's not good at all. No one is listening to wus right now because of that. So today, on this radio program, we will talk about nothing interesting in particular. I will say it myself- today's WUS will be boring. Even the songs will be ones people have never heard before. In other words-- new songs, or NEW ALBUM SONGS...

Song: TAKE OFF (SMAP)--new song!!! =) (ahhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

See!? Nooo one knows this song right? No one has heard it before. It's not popular. Why? Because it's from smap's new album-- hasn't been released yet. Usually on radio, it's better to play popular songs. Especially in the beginning of the program, to set the mood. But since we are running away today.. From the beginning, I wasn't keen on giving you an interesting program. Because Howl's Moving Castle is playing right now, and there's no use.

Kimura Takuya san, congratulations on Howl's airing on tv. Miwa san from Howl's Moving Castle has been popular lately. Has she ever talked to you about Aura? (??)

We didn't really talk about Aura. But she did comment on my clothes when I appeared at the theater to promote Howl. She told me I should not wear black. I said that the stylist had it ready for me so I wore it. Right now I am wearing a Wily Coyote t-shirt that says "Let's surf". And again, it is black. But since we are running away today, there's no need to put in much power. (as in try hard)

Takuya Captain! Thanks for the 26 jikan tv the other day. (he appeared in it) Can I ask you whether or not Howl and Sophie marries after the ending of the movie? It appeared in a quiz on a Coke can, and I wanted to know. If I get the answer right, (and pick the right can of coke), I will get the one that tastes good. If I get it wrong, it will taste bad.

Oh so it's a 50-50 chance. Right now I have the 2 coke cans in front of me. It's a hard question, and we don't want to risk it. One coke can feels more aired than the other.. I'll choose "yes", they get married. I'll open the can.. Hopefully it won't overflow on the computer. (if it's wrong, it will explode). Ok, 1,2, ... (open safely) ahhhh it's the good cola!! This is not interesting at all, right--as a radio station. (he takes a gulp of soda). Today's program is not interesting. I just drank the cola and the quiz is over. So they are married. They have kids? It would be interesting to make a sequel.. BURP*.. Right now Howl wasn't the one who burped. It was Kimura, who was drinking tasty cola.

Konbanwa Takuya captain. Howl's Moving Castle is out on tv! But before I knew that, I had accidentally bought the dvd of Howl's Moving Castle. (that's not bad--says takuya). Which dvd cover do you have, takuya captain? There are many types. I got the one that was used in the movie theater. But the photo I got inside was of the character of the witch. (the girl puts in a sad face here). Did you get the one with the photo of Howl? Which scene do you have?

Yes, I have the dvd of course. But my photo is not of Howl. Which character do you think it is? Guess! I have Calcifer. (my note: I knew it!) A little weird, right? The scene where he is taken away from his fire logs. Where he says "I'm gonna fall!" (takuya imitates calcifer's voice and it's sooo realistic!)

Takuya: So Goku has come to our program while we are 'running away' just now as Howl is playing on tv.

Takuya: He is imitating Calcifer.

Takuya: raise your key (voice) a little higher.

Takuya: It's wet here! (Calcifer's voice)
Takuya: let's do a conversation as 2 calcifers talking to each other. (so they both do the voice)
Shingo: Oi.
Takuya: Concert tour is starting, but you guys haven't started rehearsing yet! (OMG!)
Shingo: It's the same each year.
Takuya: You guys haven't even gone to the stadium yet!
Shingo: I'm going today.
Takuya: But it's your solo bit right?
Shingo: I've gone for solo twice already.. how much solo rehearsal do they want me to do?
Takuya: (laughs) When are you guys going to do the whole show? (rehearsal)
Shingo: I don't know.. Howluuu Howluuu do something about it.
Takuya: I want to do it too, but they keep saying that the sound isn't ready yet.
Shingo: I asked the manager when it would be ready, but the manager told me "you're too nosy!!" (takuya laughs)
Shingo: the manager shouldn't be the one getting angry. I'm being worried!!
Takuya: (laughs)
Takuya: I'm really scared about Sapporo dome on July 30th..

Takuya: oh yeah can you please normally introduce yourself?
Shingo: oh yeah. I'm SMAP no Katori Shingo.

Takuya: so there are 2 smap members here right now.
Takuya: Can I ask you something here? You're too good.
Shingo: eh? what is?
Takuya: When I told you I would start recording my parts for the album, you said you were done with 8 songs already.
Shingo: Kimura kun you finished recording on the 5th?
Takuya: the 4th
Shingo: the Victor Entertainment said I should enter in the Guiness World Records (for fastest recording time) (takuya laughs)
Takuya: Kinki Kids (artists) are the best at spending time on each album and making it a hit. We should go in the World Records for fastest recording time.
Takuya: It's impossible to have an album out after just 2 weeks of recording, making the sound and cover.. But we have it.
Takuya: and the live concert dvd is due soon too.
Shingo: the backstage parts.. I watched the draft of the dvd- the part where we have the interview.
Takuya: memorizing 6 songs in 2 weeks..
Takuya: last year, we only met 6 times as a group for rehearsal (of SMAP SAMPLE BANG)
Shingo: This year we're rehearsing on the 5th or 4th.
Takuya: you revealed it.
Takuya: we should go to the song next. Or you should go to your solo rehearsal. You'll be late.
Shingo: They make me rehearse soo much and they examine every bit.
Takuya: then your solo should be the highlight of the show.. to hide all the other mistakes and bits we didn't rehearse.
Shingo: the backdancers are hyped up too.
Takuya: (laughs)
Takuya: have a good rehearsal then.
Shingo: Ok. What's up!!!
Takuya: oh I can't take it anymore.

The album will be out on July 26th. Full of all new songs, I hope that's ok. If you choose the Limited edition, some weird glasses will come with it. I hope you don't mind. People say "let's have a good first concert at Sapporo".. but I think it's better to say "Let's have a good first rehearsal at Sapporo!"
